Lock Light Stays On After Self-Clean

Why the lock outlasts the cycle
On Viking’s RVSOE330 and RVDOE330 wall ovens, the door-lock indicator stays lit until the clean ends and the cavity cools to a safe temperature.
On the VGSC306 gas range the clean light stays lit above 575°F, and a thermal switch stops the lock motor opening the door until the oven drops below it.
So a lit lamp on a hot oven is the lock working. On a cold oven it is a latch, switch or control fault, and a door locked shut then needs a technician, not force.

How long after self-clean does a Viking oven door unlock?
On the Viking wall ovens whose guides give figures, the clean runs about 3½ hours and the latch needs around 30 more minutes of cooling before it releases. The VGSC306 gas range's service manual allows the same half hour. A cold oven that stays locked needs a look.
When the light goes out, can I wipe the ash straight away?
Wait. The latch releases once the oven is safe to open, not once it is cold. Viking's guides say to remove the ash with a damp cloth only after the oven has cooled completely. If the light never goes out at all, call Viking Repair Redmond on (425) 585-2373.
