Check, in this order

Watch the display for a moment: a steady F08, a frozen screen, or flicker?
pass a steady F08: go on to step 2 fail flicker or a blank screen: mention it when you call

Leave the oven's breaker off for a full minute before switching it back on.
pass panel answers and F08 is gone: note the date fail F08 back at once, or the panel stays blank: stop here

If it cleared, run one ordinary bake and keep glancing at the display.
pass no code start to finish: watch for a repeat fail F08 returns mid-bake: book the wiring and board checks

Critical or not, depending
The EOC4 table ranks F08 as priority A or B. At A the control cancels the cycle and turns every element off; at B it drops only the affected feature and lets the oven run.
Like F06, this is a fault of the electronics, not of the heating parts.
Stop and call if
- F08 is back within minutes of restoring power.
- The panel stays dark after the breaker is back on and holding.
- You notice a warm, acrid smell from the control area.

Is F08 a failed control board?
Not necessarily. The code says the EOC4 control and the user interface cannot talk; the break can be in either board or in the RS485 wiring between them. Viking Repair Redmond, (425) 585-2373, checks the connections first, on one $89 visit, before any board is named.
Can I keep cooking if F08 clears after a reset?
Yes, if the oven heats normally and the display responds. Keep the date and what the oven was doing when F08 appeared, because a communication fault that comes and goes is easier to trace with that record. A repeat within days is the point to book.
